What's the Buzz on the Farm?

We became interested in raising bees during the long winter months of 2010, joined the local beekeepers association, and bought the bees and equipment in 2011. Don started with two hives which thrived and produced over 45 pounds of honey the first year. Like so many things grown on the farm, there's a huge difference between the honey extracted from our hives and that on the supermarket shelves.

These truly remarkable insects pollinate our plants and enable us to grow and harvest our fruits and vegetables. Not aggressive in nature, the honey bees are more focused on their important work than stinging interlopers. They are facinating to watch as they come and go, taking food back to their hives.
